There are many programs that will promise you improved results on your oral board interviews by encouraging you to purchase a lengthy book that talks about oral boards and tells you what other candidates have done wrong. Been there done that. Remember reading doesn't make you a better speaker, SPEAKING makes you a better speaker. Luckily we didn’t have to learn this while taking an oral board; we learned this in speech and communication classes, on the job, life experience and while getting our college degrees. This isn't to brag but to simply say there are more ways than one to skin a cat and how you go about your job preparation is no different. But we do believe in actual speaking. Michael Jordan didn't just pick up a basketball and go straight into the hall of fame he perfected his craft. That is what we teach you to do with the interview process. That is why any program that Leatherhead Coaching offers either includes or insists on getting actual speaking practice and mock interview time to improve your chances at success. Success Is Earned Not Given
As we mentioned we came up with a strategy for how we wanted to go about the interview and testing process when creating Leatherhead Coaching. Over 200 hours were spent working on interview questions, methods, body language and appearance. As past candidates ourselves, we began to understand what we really had to offer. We sat down with over a dozen full-time fire fighters and officers, picked their brains as to what they would look for in a candidate. The result of our hard work was pretty amazing.
